F1 Regulations for 2006

Julian I am not the type that switches allegiance when a driver starts winning. If I am that type I would be supporting the Bambino driver.

I am still a crazy fan of JV but in a Sauber (a team which has never won a race), I have to be realistic. JV is nearing the end of his career and I find in Alonso The Cute all the ideals I like to see in a driver so why not support him too ?

I've always rated Alonso highly but I didn't expect Renault to give him a car that was close to the McLaren and in my predictions for 2005 back in January I said

And these were my picks for the Australian race back in March before Alonso started winning regularly.

It'll be close between Alonso and Kimi. Montoya is too hard on the car and retires. Fisichella is no match for Alonso but the Renault is so much faster than the rest. Michael goes off into the gravel frustrated at how slow the 04M is. Barrichello makes it to the finish happy to see Michael off!
Webber and Heidfeld make it but the Williams is too slow. Villeneuve makes it ahead of Coutlhard.
Both BAR grenades blow, Trulli and Ralfie are in the points at the start of the race but lose consistency !!
The 2 Jordan drivers take each other out

So don't just assume things about me and make them sound like facts

hi, does anybody know how much slower the V8's are compared to the V10's? all i know is that a f2004 equipped with a v8 can go around the vallelunga ciruit with massa at the wheel at a time of 1:13.007. however, schumacher could probaly go about a second a lap faster.

I read a figure somewhere that suggests around 10 secs a lap.

Comparing actual testing times from a couple of test sessions:

At Monza in September
Best time set by Panis was a 1:27.983 in a development chassis running the V8 engine.
Best time set by Trulli was a 1:21.350 in this year's car

At Silverstone in September
Best time set by de la Rosa was a 1:22.974 running the V8 engine
Best time set by Wurz was a 1:17.673 in this year's car

At Jerez in late September
Best time set by Ricardo Zonta was a 1:20.111 running the V8 engine
Best time set by Jarno Trulli was a 1:18.836.

Depending on the track of course, expect the time difference to range between 2 to 6 seconds with the gap getting smaller as the season progresses.

Engine changes next year from V10 to V8.But do v know,if the V8 engines need to last for 2 races/1 race or can be changed like old times??
There would uncertainity in teams to get V8 to last 1400kms right from word go

The "2 races per engine" rule remains for 2006 and many "exotic materials" are banned.
Only the tyre rules have changed
