The Sepang international circuit, which is specifically designed for speed & exciting racing, is one of the best in the world...

The entire 2,300 acre complex was built in just 14 months, and houses a hotel, shopping centre, golf course & numerous other sports facilities.

The wide track is particularly favourable to overtaking manouvres, and plenty of open throttle. The circuit not only provides the riders with the longest lap of the MotoGP circuit, but an added challenge with the intense heat & humidity.

Qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang was cancelled this afternoon, after over a two hour delay, due to standing water left by heavy rain.

Soon after the free practise sessions were run(on a bone dry circuit), a massive rain storm hit the Sepang circuit just before this afternoon's qualifying....After an hour the rain had finally stopped, but had left behind vast amounts of standing water and - after further track examinations - it was decided that another one-hour delay was required to try to reduce the flooding, with marshals seen sweeping water and digging trackside ditches.

Therefore, the grid for Sunday's race will be set by using the best lap times recorded during the three free practice sessions, meaning that world champion Valentino Rossi (fastest in FP3) will start on pole ahead of world championship leader Nicky Hayden and Friday pace setter Loris Capirossi.

An amazing race and a great result

the championship is closing in on a great finish.

Dani was quite outstanding and it is a bit of a shame he highsided yesterday as he'd have had a damn good chance of winning and closing the gap to Nicky.

I have a slight problem with the concept of a championship leader compromising his championship riding a bike with development parts. Especially when your teammate is on a perfectly respectable and competitive bike. What exactly am I missing? As far as I can tell Nicky the team are being stupid and should step back from the clutches of an overheating clutch. There is no way Dani's bike would be that much of a culture shock for Nicky in fact he'd probably feel right at home.

I think Nick has been told he is the development rider, and will remain so even if he wins the ch'ship

Fantastic race!!! Dani Pedrosa .. wow he is amazing. To come out and ride following that accident is good but to go on and get on the podium with a knee that has split open during the race is unbelievable.
Great duel between Rossi and Capirossi. Right on the edge of my seat ... wondering who would cross the line first.
I felt for Nicky Hayden. Why would the team do that to him???? I just don't get it.
