I've made no secret of my admiration for Lewis and I'm convinced he is the most tenatious racer I have ever seen. Whether F1 will suit his incredible talents does however remain in doubt. Because F1 cars are designed to overtake in the pit lane and not on the track there is some room for doubt in my mind.

But you have left off the second brightest prospect in F1 Heikki Kovalainen!!!!

Ed when you add the poll don't miss Heikki!!

1. LH
2. HK
Lewis Hamilton & Jenson Button World Champions :)

Thats right, I missed HEIKKI, so the list has to be a bit longer and he is a likely top 3 talent...

However I feel that SEBASTIAN VETTEL will be the next phenomenon after MICHAEL...

We are witnessing the next phenomenon after SENNA :D
It will be a long time before Alonso is toppled by one of those young ones.

I reckon it will be Heikki with Nelson close behind (something like Alonso and Raikkonen now)

Nico seems inconsistent, Speed hasn't blown Liuzzi away, Kubica has potential, Vettel why ? What has he done to be considered better than Heikki or Piquet ? 3rd drivers almost always go fastest on Fridays

But how can you forget Heikki :D :D

My order at this stage would be:

Kovalainen
Piquet Jr & Hamilton
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

I know there is a lot of speculation about how wel Kovalainen and Hamilton will go once they both get going, but for the moment, I am pretty dern impressed with Robert [Rubix] Kubica. Not since Senna has a new driver driven to a podium in less than 5 races. (I am not really counting Jacques Villeneuve because he entered the top team with arguably the best car when he entered Formula 1.)

You know, I can't help feeling a little sad that the Schumacher era is drawing to a close. However, we are fully involved in the Alonso era now. (sorry Raikkonen fans) Alonso is the guy you must beat to win now. He is a champion in every sense of the word and will be for a long time.

I like the chances for Nelsinho Piquet (his dad was one of the absolute best ever) and Lewis Hamilton who both seem to know what it takes to win championships. I have been less than impressed with Nico Rosberg, but the Williams team is so bad right now that I've got to give him some slack. It will be interesting to see how Doornobs (as I think Jacfan put it) and Kovalainen go. Heikki is in the best position to show his stuff. Unless all of these fast youngsters fall on their faces, I don't see much future for Scott Speed, Liuzzi, or Klien if they don't start looking like there is life on Mars real quick.

It is going to be fun to watch!

Those last 3 have very little time left in, or connected to F1, there is just too much better talent around. I feel sorry for Gary Paffet at this stage.

SEBASTIAN VETTEL looks to me as the most outstanding because he is able to be just about fastest in whatever serie he enters, which he demonstrated in F3, World Series by Renault and then F1. He had close to no time to try anything with these cars but was mighty impressive. He was not just a friday 3rd driver because of the total lack of F1 experience and whats more he delivered in a BMW SAUBER...

Anyway, as things look for 2007, HEIKKI, LEWIS and ROBERT will all have good race seats and they will have a great start to their careers.

By the way, RALF was also on the podium in his 3rd GP and ALEX WURZ was right up there pretty quickly also...has a lot to do with the car and a bit of luck, even ROBERT got there thanks to FERNANDOs engine blow..(he might have finished 5th behind FELIPE).

One always needs a bit of luck in this business of Formula 1. Still Kubica did well right from the start, and was making the BMW Sauber look like a front running car finishing ahead of Massa, Fisico, Button, Rubinho, PDLR, Kimi, and his more experienced teammate.

I hear you about Wurz and Ralf. Wurz is an awesome driver. I watched him win the prototype race at Laguna Seca the year before he came into F1. He is a great talent.

Ralf's example F1greyhound just shows that one shouldn't get too excited about a few good results early on. His result in Argentina is similar to Kubica in Italy.
Ralf was just crazy in his first season, he either had a good result or retired, when he calmed down, he stopped being fast
And doesn't anyone still really remember Nico's great drive in Bahrain :(

I hope Kovalainen and Hamilton can handle the expectations better
