The Honda RA107

Post by Ed » Fri Jan 26, 2007 5:11 pm

Honda Racing F1 team unveiled the RA107 on Thursday at the Catalunya track in Barcelona.

The RA107 was sporting its black and white testing colours with the team's new livery to be revealed in February.

Honda Racing CEO Nick Fry aims to move the team closer to winning the World Championship. He said:
We are proud to present the product of a year's excellent co-operation between Honda facilities in the UK and Japan. Although the different engineering groups have worked closely for several years, the RA107 is a true international team effort involving hour by hour communication, strong team work and great team spirit across the globe. This year we aim to build on the latter part of the 2006 season and successful pre-Christmas testing, during which we completed more testing than any other team. We intend to benefit from continuity of drivers and key personnel, combined with performance improvement designed into the new RA107 using our full-scale wind tunnel which was completed last season, to move closer to realising our World Championship ambitions.

Sleek look actually. They could keep the black livery. But of course looks do not count :) In F1 that is...

Most of their hopes has to be with JENSON...

Impossible to judge the car here, but bearing in mind JENSONs run in the second half of 2006 - 7 points finishes in a row incl. victory in Budapest and 3rd in the last GP in Brazil for 40 points should make it possible for HONDA to move closer to the top, eventually top 3.

However, the competition is sharp.

It's only a test car. Honda team runs more tests than anyone. So I'd expect them to try various setups including some with few aero parts. Any ideas Ed?

While they have done that in the past, the testing agreement that is in effect for 2007 means that all the teams (or most) will have a similar testing program.

The difference could be on Fridays but again 180 minutes every two weeks isn't that much.

Like all the other top teams, we will see changes to the car before it appears in Melbourne, also being in black tends to hide some of the details.

To emphasise what you have said though, Senior Technical Director Shuhei Nakamoto said:
There is a great deal of on-track development work to conduct before we embark on the racing season, however positive signs from the car's testing debut provide the reassurance that we have taken a good direction.

Now that they have a grasp of their wind tunnels, I expect most teams will have prepared "bolt on" aero to suit the atmo conditions, the track conditions, and the tyre runs. We may even see "slip on" aero changes to go with the tyre changes.
Remember, you read it here first, courtesy of Tim, Ed, et Al

Something to "thunk" about. At 280 kmh the shape of the mirrors (were they "free") can add or subtract 3-7kmh, multiplied by the laps.....ergo....we have a winner 8)
I stuffed it up last season, when I quoted MW and something about tenths per lap, over a GP distance.......he didn't  , sorry JayVee
