Alonso's demise....

Post by DanoF1 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 3:28 am

Is it just me or is Fernando Alonso extremely full of himself? I mean, I used to like the guy, but now all I hear is "me, me, me..." I know we shoulnt believe everything we hear/read on the news, but every article on him seems to make some mention of how he thinks Renault is letting him down. I understand he is a double world champion and he may be entitled to a good car, but he knew what kind of car Renault was when he re-joined them.
If he keep this behavior up he'll soon be unemployable.

Interesting thought. I personally haven't heard much of that but I do tend to think that all the great drivers have very healthy egos. What do you think of Hambone and his attitude???

Well, I think Hamilton's rapid ascent to the top messed with his concentration. She should've expected the press to be all over his every little move. I don't think he did - or at least to the extent that he should have. His attitude lately has been one of "I am strong and focused", when in reality I think he's getting phased by the pressure. It is quite understandable to be swayed by the glamour of F1 and get your priorities mixed up. He needs to leave all non-F1 related acitivities behind during the rest of the season if he is to climb back to the top and have a shot at challenging for the championship.
But, then again, what do I know...? As my "tag" implies, I am in the novice category here....heehee

Cheers!

Be careful here...

Many business entities have come to rely on an ever increasing "fan" base. They are not above using PR (positive or negative) to increase the attention the sport naturally gets. I am starting to believe less and less of what gets reported about "Hamilton said this" or "Alonzo said that" because most of it is taken totally out of context and sensationalized to the extreme.

Truth be told, most of the drivers have pretty good relationships with one another and their respective teams.

We live in an age where the idiocy of fake and ridiculous "reality" TV has turned sports (and damn near everything else) into fodder for the masses. Every traditional news outlet has become a tabloid social rag.

Did you read the story on NewsOnF1 about the testing crash between Timo Glock and David Coulthard elsewhere on this site? How did such an ordinary and arbitrary collision during a test even warrant reporting?

Here is a direct quote from this non-story:
Jun.27 (GMM) On-track hostilities for the British grand prix got an early start this week, as two competitors collided during the final day of pre-race testing at the Silverstone circuit on Thursday.

Timo Glock, who drives for Toyota, "decided to attack" David Coulthard as the pair tackled the Stowe corner, the Scot's team Red Bull Racing said in a media document at the end of the day.

"The German driver immediately apologised, but didn't come round to the garage to help with repairs," the Milton-Keynes based squad's tongue-in-cheek PR department added.
The report goes on to say this:
"It was a misunderstanding -- when I turned in at the end of the Hangar straight David was there," Glock, 26, said.

"I just didn't see him so I apologise for that."
Does that seem like the typical posture of someone who is 'hostile' or 'on-the-attack'?

Do you see what I mean?

Maybe we are living on different planets!!

Alonso has always spoken his mind, of course the media and the British media in particular have been exagerating anything he says.
But he has every right to complain. He is putting a car so high up the grid even though it shouldn't even make it to the 3rd qualifying. Just look at Piquet's qualifying results.
I don't think we can even imagine the effort Alonso is putting in with this car and I think the frustration is starting to show through the mistakes he is making.
I think he really wants a competitive car and wants to stay with Renault but if they don't deliver then he will be going somewhere else and I suspect that will be BMW.
Unemployable ? This makes me laugh!! He is still regarded as the best driver out there and any team would want him. Last year he said he talked to all the teams except Ferrari, I expect this year he will be having a talk to Ferrari as well (but I hope he doesn't go there  )
I'm back and yes supporting Alonso "The Cute" in the Ferrari!

Dano, I agree with JayVee on this one........Alonso ain't going anywhere; he's a 2-time WDC who's putting in lots of effort this year considering Renault's general lack of pace vs. the Scuderia, BMW and the Silver Arrows(now that I think of it, why did he go to McLaren last year?......  ). Even if the results don't show it, he's doing everything in his power to make the team better and that has to count for something in F1 these days. As for being unemployable..........like I said, he's a 2-time WDC; he'd find a place on the grid, although he could always do a "Mansell" and race Indycars next year..........    :burnout:

Alonso is more than likely staying put at Renault. He has a great relationship with the French team. The talk is to put pressure on the team to deliver a better car. Nothing is wrong with the Renault engine. Alonso is too smart to move away from a team with solid funding from an engine supplier.

IMHO, BMW is not an option as Robert Kubica is clearly the future for that team, and Nick Heidfeld is 100% of the R&D. BMW is the one team with good chemistry all the way around. They remind me of Williams in the early 90s with Mansell and Patrese or McLaren with Senna and Berger. This is why I believe they will take the WC (if Hamilton or Raikonnen don't snatch it).

The only valid option might be Toyota. With their pace of late, they may make Alonso an attractive offer to come aboard.

I am not the biggest fan of Alonso's driving, but he does have a great style and personality. :shine:

Going with the current rumours, it would be very interesting to see him racing alongside Heidfeld (would remind me of the old Alonso-Trulli days :burnout:) or Kubica (two-times champion vs would-be champion :coool: )
