Piquet Jr is lying!

I just read Nelsin Piquet Jr's account of his accident in Singapore, and I have come to the conclusion he is lying. This is a vendetta of the grandest proportion.

If Piquet Jr were skilled enough to purposely crash his vehicle as violently as the shunt was and pull it off successfully without injuring himself, he would be a most skillful driver of World Championship caliber which he has demonstrated time and again that he is not. His account of the events leading up to the crash seem far too detailed and overly dispassionate as to appear fake. Nelsinho's profile is that of a highly volatile and emotional individual. If he can pull this off at will, why can't he get through other races without spins and "accidental" shunts?

Nelson Piquet, Jr has a history of bizarre behavior and strange tirades even before he came to Formula 1. He crashed or spun out of no less than 6 races in 2008 that I remember.

Maybe the official investigators have it right in one way: his Singapore shunt was as bizarre as the man who survived it. Pat Symonds' remarks about the crash seem quite natural leaving me to believe he is telling the truth. He merely agrees that Nelsinho's crash was bizarre from examining the telepathy. I have yet to read any remarks from Flavio Briatore, but here is another bizarre character in Formula 1.

Perhaps Piquet Jr did crash deliberately, but on his own. He certainly seems unstable enough to risk his life doing such a thing.

I guess we have now learned of the truth and it does appear that Piquet, Briatore and Symonds conspired to cause this crash.

It is another sad episode for Formula 1 and losing someone of Pat Symond's calibre for such a stupid act is one of the worst outcomes to this.
And I doubt very much that Piquet will ever be seen in a Formula 1 car again (unless in a team owned by his dad!)

That's an understatement, Ed.............I doubt we'll ever see Nelson Jr. in any form of single-seater racing, whether its' in F1 or North America, period.

In the documentation released by the FIA, both Pat Symonds and "Witness-X" (a whistleblower inside Renault) indicated that the idea of deliberately crashing came from Piquet. Piquet indicated that it was Symonds' idea.

The FIA hasn't tried to establish who was telling the truth in this matter yet if Piquet wasn't telling the truth wouldn't he be in breach of his immunity conditions!

It is also worth noting this statement:
Mr Piquet Jnr was informally advised before making his statement on 30 July 2009 that he would benefit from immunity from individual sanction in the event that he cooperated fully with the FIA's investigation and gave a detailed account that was true to the best of his knowledge and belief. This conditional offer of immunity was formalised in a letter dated 25 August 2009 from the FIA President to Mr Piquet Jnr. The WMSC considers in this instance that Mr Piquet Jnr has complied with the conditions attached to the offer of immunity and should therefore be exempt from individual FIA sanctions under the International Sporting Code. The WMSC also considers that, as a matter of policy, those in a position to inform the FIA of serious breaches of its rules should be encouraged to come forward with all relevant evidence and that, in order to secure this aim, Mr Piquet Jnr should be afforded the immunity initially offered to him.

The WMSC notes, however, that by conspiring with Mr Briatore and Mr Symonds to effect the crash plan, Mr Piquet Jnr showed a shameful disregard for the safety of spectators, officials and his fellow competitors and his actions are worthy of the heaviest censure. While the WMSC accepts that Mr Piquet Jnr appears to have been subject to unfavourable treatment at the hands of his team principal and manager, Mr Briatore, the WMSC must note, nonetheless (as Mr Piquet Jnr accepted in his submissions to the WMSC), that he could have - and should have - refused to carry out the crash plan

The whole thing is pretty weird, funnily I remember asking myself if the crash was deliberate when it happened, a bit like MICHAEL in Monaco....

It is true that being consistent the FIA would have to refuse a licence for NELSON in the future. However, can they do that, having declared immunity for the poor boy?

One has to expect NELSON wouldnt ever do such a thing again, so should he be given another chance?

I think his biggest problem is that he didnt perform greatly, actually there are some more successful competitors sidelined as well, e.g.french SEB...

I always beleive that people should be given another chance but on merit, I don't think Piquet will be given a drive however if a team subscribes to the idea of race fixing then they may have a candidate!!!

I agree on Bourdais, I think he certainly deserves another chance

I keep hearing rumors here in the States' that Piquet, Jr. might look for an Indycar ride, but he'll have better luck looking for beachfront property in Nevada than a ride over here..............
