Ever since the 21 Sept. 2009 FIA hearing into Crash-Gate and the resultant decision against Renault, there has been lots of speculation as to the identity of Witness X, whose testimony was pivotal in the FIA's decision. Well, according to the following Yahoo/Eurosport article earlier this week, we now know the identity of Witness X.
Here is the article link.................Permane is Witness X
Witness X is none other than Renault chief engineer Alan Permane. As I mentioned in the crash-gate there were 2 reasons why it made sense that Permane was X instead of say, Fernando Alonso............
Now that, (a)we know who Witness X is, and (b)we also know that Alonso will be racing for Ferrari in 2010, could we see these two work their magic once again as they did when Alonso won his 2 drivers' championship earlier in the decade?mlittle wrote:(1)as chief race engineer for Renault, Permane would be involved in all meetings pertaining to strategy for both qualifying and the race; any decisions made by either Messrs. Briatore and/or Symonds would likely pass through Permane down to each driver's engineer and to both Alonso and PK, Jr, respectively.....(2)unlike the rumors pointing towards Fernando Alonso as Witness X, Alonso wouldn't have been in a position to confirm any of the testimony presented as the article above mentions; this points back towards the team's engineers and Permane specifically.
