This weekend is the first of 3 events over 3 weeks. To cap it off, two of these events will be sprint weekends.
After a few weeks off away from the track, this weekend will be a chance for all teams to show their upgrades created over this quiet period.
Liam Lawson will get a chance to step into the fray gently as his RB will have a new power unit. This will slide him to the rear of grid for the grand prix giving him the opportunity to get a feel for the car that proved more than adequate last season when Daniel Ricciardo returned from his injury to finish in the points in Mexico.
What will Red Bull bring to the table and will McLaren try to dominate the sprint race to drag back the point gap to Max Verstappen. Hindsight from Hungary where they asked Lando Norris to give the win to Oscar Piastri. Those 7 points would be so much better in Norris' pocket than Piastri's.

Sprint qualifying was disastrous for a few of the more highly rated drivers, mainly due to exceeding track limits on their only or fastest runs.
Most notable was Oscar Piastri who had a slower lap in Q1 and then proceeded to lose his fast lap relegating him to P16.
Q2 had Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson all have their one and only laps deleted.
Alex Albon had a massive spin on his lap, luckily down the middle of the track and ending pointing in the right direction.
Sergio Perez again failed to impress only making it into P11.

It looks like the Red Bull has made use of the break with a dominant start to the US Grand Prix of Austin Texas.
Max Verstappen took pole by a mere 0.012s ahead of George Russell.
From the start, Max was never headed. He took control entering turn 1 ahead of a rapid starting Lando Norris and was never threatened.
Lando pulled of a masterful move at the top of the hill taking a tight entry and exit. While George Russell was trying to fend off Charles Leclerc, Norris took the advantage and hung tough through turn 2 to take the inside running into turn 3.
The Ferrari's then had their own battle with Carlos Sainz coming out the better.
The race then settled down for a bit before Carlos Sainz took George Russell entering turn 15.
One lap later, Charles Leclerc pulled the same move and the Ferrari duo were in P3 and P4.
The final lap and the lower podium cars were again together. Lando locked a brake entering turn 1 and Sainz took the position. Leclerc was denied by Norris regaining his composure and getting back on the racing line.
Charles Leclerc set up for the same move that both he and Sainz had successfully used earlier in the race however Norris was aware and shut the line down. Leclerc got all out of shape avoiding the contact and the top 4 positions were then set.

What an exciting qualifying session that was.
Again, track limits played its role with Yuki Tsunoda losing two laps and Lewis Hamilton losing his final lap in Q1. Given the Lewis' second lap was only good for P16, the loss wasn't that great. It just shows what a fine line the teams run in setting their cars up for the race.
Liam Lawson is carrying in multiple car penalties into this event and he played the team role in endeavoring to tow Yuki Tsunoda down the back straight. This came to naught with Tsunoda qualifying in P11.
Teams went out in the first run with Lando Norris leading the way. As the teams were commencing their final runs, George Russell lost his Mercedes into the barriers bringing out double waved yellows ultimately bringing the session to a close. Driver is fine, the car will need significant work to get it ready for the race.

Well, what a race!
There is so much discussion that could be had.
For my 2 cents worth, the penalty imposed on Lando Norris for leaving the track and gaining an advantage was rude.
Where was he supposed to go when Verstappen sends his car into turn 12 and cannot keep reasonable enough control to keep it on the circuit?
There were precedents set during the race of running the another car off the circuit however, in all of these incidents, the driver at fault kept his car within the confines of the track. I am at a loss...
Charles Leclerc took advantage of a Max Verstappen dive bomb into turn 1 and was never headed. Carlos Sainz was caught in the aftermath when cars returned to the circuit managing to slot into P3. Carlos Sainz attempted a dive into 12 but allowed Max to take his second position back, probably a smart move given the decisions that were to unfold throughout the race. He then settled into a close 3rd place and used the undercut to take 2nd from Max. The McLaren duo didn't seem at home on the medium compound tyres but really came alive in the final stint on the hards.
