After a delay of an hour and 20 minutes due to wet weather conditions, the race commenced behind the safety car.
Lando Norris exited La Source with wheel spin enabling Oscar Piastri to get under his real wing. As they exited Radillon, Piastri swept past on the outside and was never headed.
Max Verstappen chased Charles Leclerc for the whole race while George Russell had a spirited start into 5th but that's where his run ended. Starting from pit lane, Lewis Hamilton made early progress through the field and benefited being the first car to go onto slicks charging into a magnificent 7th place. This earned him Driver of the Day.
Alex Albon hung in there making the correct call on going onto slicks. The Williams was reasonably quick down the Kammel Straight and held off Hamilton's Ferrari for a great 6th position.
