2006 Belgian Grand Prix withdrawn

Post by Ed » Sat Jan 21, 2006 7:36 am

The Belgian Grand Prix for 2006 appears to be in serious doubt after talks with Bernie Ecclestone regarding funding collapsed.
Ecclestone appeared close to a deal however it is reported that track improvements required before the race cannot be completed in time.

The Belgian Grand Prix is a favourite among drivers and fans and it would be dissapointing to see it off the calendar because of a funding deal. Lets hope some deal can be struck in time to save it.

If the race gets dropped, we will have 18 races this season and we'll have a 3 week gap between the Italian and Chinese Grands Prix.

The FIA have confirmed the withdrawl of the 2006 Belgian Grand Prix from the 2006 calendar due to delays in the improvement works at the circuit.

The statement read:
The Belgian National Sporting Authority, the RACB, has written to notify the FIA of the withdrawal of the 2006 Belgian Grand Prix from the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The withdrawal has been made in order to allow the completion of extensive improvement work to facilities at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

The FIA hopes that the event will be included once again in the Formula One World Championship calendar from 2007 onwards.
The means that there will only be 18 races this season with a 3-week break between the Italian Grand Prix on the 10th of September and the Chinese Grand Prix on the 1st of October.

Oh, was that what his picture was for?

Woops

I think I burned it already....

Go look in the F1 archives in the "I ruined F1 with the help of my friend Max" folder....there should be a spare picture there.....aswell as a few documents involving belgium and some pathetic technical regulations....

Why doesn't Bernie just buy Belgium? I mean, he is rich enough, and then maybe we can live in the ideal F1 world where the SPA circuit isn't under threat every year!!!

He is rich, true but it would be cheaper for him to build a SPA replica in another country outside Europe and not worry about EU rules otherwise he'll have to buy Europe and that maybe a bit more expensive  :D

No such thing mate.
Ok, Lewis may win the WDC in 07, but Sato will beat him in 08.
