The Williams F1 FW28 - 2006 F1 Contender

The Williams F1 team today (Friday) launched their 2006 Formula 1 contender, the FW28. The aim for 2006 is to re-establish Williams at the sharp end.

Technical Director Sam Michael said:

The FW28 has been a large departure from previous Williams? designs due in part to new aerodynamic efficiency targets, but also the mechanical challenges of changing to Bridgestone tyres and Cosworth?s V8 engine. It has been a really interesting car to design and I believe that will continue to be the case during its development in 2006.

The FW28 has a lot resting on its shoulders as it must re-establish Williams at the sharp end. There are many good teams in Formula One now and how to beat them is simple ? design a faster car.

I would rather see Wurtz in the second car. If Nico puts a foot wrong, I suspect that will happen. Mind you, if the car is not competitive Mark might decide to have a rethink about his diary for 2007/08, and have a serious discussion with his manager, one Mr Briatore

I wish good luck to Williams (specialy MW) this season, so the forum will be more optimistic!! =)

And Wurz could replace the guy in the first car if that guys starts getting over ambitious with his starts again

give Nico a break. He is just starting

\\Yes, and I agree with everything said about Nico's potential You may recall that I was one of the first to extoll his ability.
However, in my opinion, and the last time I looked opinions were welcome in the forums, Wurtz would be a better bet. NB note the latest test times.

I too was expressing my opinion

But if you agree that Nico is highly rated then he should be given a chance even if he does a couple of mistakes but even before the poor guy starts you are starting to call for his removal if .....

And you seem to pay attention to lap times when it suits

Sigh......let me try it this way.
Nico has heaps of potential (imho)
I think Wurtz is a better bet.(imho)
I don't pay attention to lap times when it does not suit, naturally.

And what did Wurz achieve in the past ? A season or two at Benetton I think and was replaced. If he had that much potential wouldn't you think he would have been picked by Red Bull

Fangio, Brabham spring to mind.
Sigh again........I just want to see the fastest 2 drivers in a Williams. If one is not Mark, so be it. Wurtz has been setting fast times compared to Nico, who so far is 1 - 2 secs off Webber.
Like you, (Alonso ?) Red Bull seems to favour youth. (Toyboys?

The latest test in Valencia had MW pull a 1:10:601, only 0.05 off FA's fastest from 2 weeks ago.

Finding Williams difficult to judge at the moment, but that is certainly one of the most impressive times to come out of their 06 car thus far.

Can I start being cautiously optimistic?

Webber's time is impressive indeed and the car was reliable covering 94 laps without problems.
Lets see if he improves further over the next two days.
